Are you looking to infuse vitality into your week while fostering meaningful connections within your community? Look no further than Sit & Be Fit — a fun filled (with a pinch of seriousness) chair fitness class and social gathering held every Tuesday at Birkenshaw Methodist Church from 11am to 12:30pm.

At the heart of Sit & Be Fit lies the recognition of the profound importance of movement in maintaining overall health and well-being. Our class offers 45 minutes of gentle somatics, stretching, strengthening, and cardio exercises tailored to accommodate all fitness levels. Through guided movements, you'll experience increased flexibility, improved strength, and enhanced cardiovascular health — all within a supportive and inclusive environment.

Move What You Can: Everyone's Welcome, and Every Movement Matters

But Sit & Be Fit is more than just a fitness class — it's a vibrant community where friendships blossom and connections thrive. Following the invigorating workout session, we gather for 45 minutes of social time, enjoying tea, coffee, and biscuits and shared laughter. At Sit & Be Fit our commitment is to accessibility and inclusivity. The class operates on a donation basis, with all proceeds reinvested into sustaining the program. Our dedicated team of volunteers ensures that everyone, regardless of financial means, can participate and benefit from this enriching experience. From covering room hire costs to organizing community outings, every donation received directly contributes to the continuity and growth of our group.

As part of our ongoing efforts to support Sit & Be Fit, we're excited to announce our upcoming Easter raffle (more information below) — an opportunity for participants to contribute while potentially winning fantastic prizes. Your involvement not only adds to the vibrancy of our community but also ensures the sustainability of this invaluable program.

Get ready for an adventure, our very first road trip is happening! We're gearing up to spend an unforgettable day at Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum, and trust us, you won't want to miss it.

Once we arrive at Burnby Hall Gardens & Museum, the options are endless — whether you're drawn to the serene beauty of the gardens, eager to dive into the rich history of the museum, or simply in the mood for some good old-fashioned market day charm in Pocklington (a 10 minute walk and it's market day), there's something for everyone to enjoy.

There's more! From 1-2pm, prepare to indulge your taste buds in our very own marquee, where a mouthwatering buffet awaits, courtesy of The Lilypad Café. Picture yourself surrounded by Sit & Be Fit friends, feasting on delicious treats while soaking in the sun-drenched ambiance — it doesn't get much better than this.

After a leisurely hour of exploring to walk off our scrumptious lunch, we'll reconvene and hop back on the coach for a snooze, hearts full of memories and bellies full of joy.
