How to Choose a Reiki Teacher

How to Choose a Reiki Teacher

Choosing a Reiki Teacher can be confusing especially if you haven’t had a recommendation from someone or are very new to Reiki.

There are a number of different modalities and paths of Reiki so it is important that you investigate what is on offer and the format of training and the area that resonates with you.

The most common Reiki available is Usui Shiki Ryoho which follows the traditional Western Lineage of Reiki that was taught via Hawayo Takata. Other training modalities include Jikiden (Traditional Japanese), Angelic, Seichem etc.

Some things to consider:

  • Choose the Reiki Modality you would like to follow.
  • Research the Reiki Master Teachers in your area.
  • Do you have a ‘word of mouth’ recommendation?
  • Find out what Lineage of Reiki the Teacher offers.
  • What format of training is available? Is it a 1 or 2 day workshop or taught over a number of evenings? How many hours of training are offered? The Reiki Guild state a minimum of 8 Hours is an ideal length.
  • Find out what is covered on the workshop – so ask for an example of the agenda, this will show you the core topics and whether there is time to practice.
  • Find out how much the workshop is. Workshops can vary in cost and do depend on the business overheads and the location of the workshop. The most expensive courses do not always offer the best training – but likewise finding out what each teacher offers you is the most important way to choose.
  • Is the Reiki Teacher affiliated with any of the official ‘bodies’ like the Reiki Association, the Reiki Guild, The Reiki Federation etc.? Again this is not the be all and end all but does give an indication whether the Teacher has been verified.
  • Is the training 1 to 1 or in a group – and if so how many?
  • Do you receive a booklet and/or certificate?
  • Is there any support or follow up after the workshop – and if so in what format? Does this include further training if required to the next levels of Reiki?

These are by no means the only points to consider but it may assist in making a decision when taking the Reiki Path. Reiki On!!!
